If you are worried about the trains hitting the floor, I would suggest a Masonite barrier added to the edge. A few screws and glue should hold it securely in place.  It would only need to be about 3" tall.  .

If you put a 1/2 or 1/3 curve between the two switches, you will get away from the edge and will be able to run straighter sidings......which will look even nicer once you extend the table into a nice 'L'. Big Smile
