I have two tracks running on my TIU and just recently I am having a lot of problems with the one output on the TIU. Variable 1 input quit on me, so should I go to Variable 2 or Fixed input 2? I first noticed that my large steam locomotive with PS-2 wasn't doing 100% right, about two months ago, then I put a diesel with PS-2 on the track today and it did the same thing. I bypassed the Variable input and everyhting works correctly.
Fixed input 1 is working fine, everything works with Fixed input 1. Is there a reset for Variable 1? Also I just changed the triple A batteries in my remote for the handheld unit.

Lee,
What revision is your TIU? All revisions, except for Rev. G, are marked on a decal on the bottom of the TIU.
Sorry, but please read your DCS User's Manual. You must get power to the TIU itself.
If you are running your PS-2 locomotives under DCS Control, you wire the the output of your transformer to the TIU "Fixed Input #1" and set the transformer to full output (full Throttle). Wire from the TIU "Fixed Output #1" to the track and your done. All operations are controlled by the Hand Held Remote.
"FIXED INPUT #1" POWERS BOTH THE TRACK AND THE TIU.
If you are not using the "Fixed #1 Input" but use the "Variable Inputs", (where power can range from "0" to "Full Power") the TIU must be powered with a separate input labled "Aux Power Input". MTH suggests that you use the Z-500 (50 watts) or Z-750 (75 watts) transformers.

I forgot to mention that I have the TIU powered by a Z-750 to the aux input and that is what happened with the TIU. Is there a reset for the TIU or do I need to go to Fixed Input 2?
I was getting completely warbled sounds from a PS-2 steam engine and then when I put a PS-2 diesel on the track it started blowing the horn as soon as voltage was applied. Also tried a conventional engine and it acted crazy; horn kept going off every four seconds and engine would barely even crawl. Finally I bypassed the TIU and everything works properly.
My handheld remote says it is version 3.10 copyright 2003.
You may want to re-load and upgrade both the Remote and TIU. Could just as well be software.
The last version MTH released was 4.10 in 2008, the latest loader program to install on your computer so you can download and install updates was released in 2009. Both the Remote and TIU must have the same software version. All downloads are free. You will find instructions, tips, and downloads at the below MTH web site.

It sounds as though your variable channel is set to low voltage. I would suggest using the remote to change the variable channel to fixed using the soft key if running PS2 engines. If using the variable channel for conventional make sure input from transformer is set to at least 18 volts and use the remote to adjust voltage to track.
The correct version is 4.1 I believe

I have switched the wires over to Fixed 2 input & output and will see what happens in the next couple of days.
Have tried previously to update the TIU but my computer refused to recognize the cable going to the TIU from the backside of my computor. Bought a new computor since I last tried to download the updates from MTH website. What all do I need to do to download the updates? I have lost all information from the last time as I had to trash my old computor. Not sure but I think that I still have the cables from last time I tried to download.
