Yes, going to buy a couple 1 oz. jars and whatever paint thinner they recommend for Testor's enamel. Also will look at their primer for the plastic as well.
Will let you know how it all turns out in the end, thanks!
S:
I have found that a small bottle goes a long way. I'm sure you know that you should dilute the paint before pushing it through an airbrush. They are cheap, so why not buy two anyway and have a sealed one for a backup.

Looks like I'll have to order Testor's Platinum Mist enamel online...but how much do I need to in general to airbrush one diesel shell? It comes in 1 oz. bottles but I can't imagine that would be enough.
Hate to order too much because once this project is done I won't have another use for it.
Thanks again!
Gents:
Go to the Testors web site and look through their Floquil paints. They have matches for RR road names. That, at least, is one source. Other's may know of others.

Well I finally got around to this project. For stripping I used Dot brake fluid and it worked just fine, stripped it down and didn’t harm the plastic but I kept my eye on it. I was a little surprised to find it was harder to remove the paint from where the decals were (American Flyer 371 diesel). According to a post above, this color is a good match for Flyer 370 series diesels, it’s an enamel: http://www.testors.com/products/133639 I have to prime plastic before I paint it correct? And I can use an enamel on plastic? I'll be using my Badger airbrush, the basic model.
It says that stuff comes in a 1 oz. bottle...how much would I need for an S gauge diesel shell?
Enough questions for now…I’ll post pics of this project diesel when finished. Thanks!
Castrol Super clean will strip most paint and not harm the plastic. I use a liter pop bottle fill it up and soak the piece for a few days. A stiff bristle toothbrush will take care of the crevices.

I do not know how many colors they have, but if you go to PortLines hobby site they have some American Flyer paints. I have pasted the link below.

Floquil Platinum Mist is perfect for the 370's and matches the silver on the PA's, especially if you use an airbrush. I've refinished dozens and used it for touch up if you mask and spray.
Just completely refinished a Silver Flash and put it next to my original, hard to tell the repaint from the original. It's my new runner now.
Thanks rtraincollector and timboy for those sources. Will let you know how it works out!
Another thing I just considered is maybe trying the Lionel 2328 silver from C. Wood, using my airbrush. Just a thought.
Keep 'em rollin'!
heres the other source http://www.trainenamel.com/index.htm

Wasn't that engine shell molded green plastic with yellow painted markings?
Mr. S. Hello, What is a good source for matching American Flyer GP-7 370 silver paint? I'd like to use my airbrush if I could, I've never seen a great repaint in silver using a spray can. Or I just haven't seen great examples. Thanks all!

Dunno, but I am still trying to match the green color on the AF #355 with the C&NW roadname.
Anyone help me there?
