Timboy,

Thanks, I'll take a look over there.  I have actually been surprised  by the amount of S posts that have been showing up on this forum lately. I find yor posts especially interesting.

Thanks again,

George

I guess my post has offended all the fans of American flyer and Lionel, as I have not received any input.

So I went ahead and purchased a 4-8008 NH EP-5 and it arrived yesterday.  Runs very well, surprisingly quiet, but I guess that is the beauty of the electric locomotive.

Any tips or suggestions for how to care for this locomotive would be appreciated.  All of my experience to date is with the old AF steamers, and one PA Diesel.

Thank you,

George

brianel, Agent 027,

Thank you, I can see when I read it now, that I wasn't very clear on my subject line.  I appreciate your note.

George, you might want to try to change the title of your posting here to something like "American Flyer locomotive by Lionel."

I checked this thread because in my mind, it sounded like you were referring to the 4-4-2 Columbia type steam loco that has been standard fare in Lionel starter sets for many years now. Many of those sets had the name "Flyer" in them such as the Chessie Flyer, Pennsylvania Flyer and New York Central Flyer.  I think there was one too called the Lionel Lines Flyer.

I think the folks here who could help you will pass over this thread because of the lack of a clear reference to American Flyer.

On the advice of a freindly poster I have changed the title of this post to make it more clear.

I have been looking for an AF 499 EP-5, and decided this is a good time to add a Lionel locomotive to my layout.

Can anyone comment on any differences between the 6-48008 and the 6-48075.  What I can find looks like the 4008 is an early 90's unit and the 48075 is a current model.  Any information you can share will be helpful.

Are they reliable, and again any preference one over the other.

 Thank you,

George
