The Pink Girls set marketing actually works!
Posted by statistician on Monday, April 19, 2010 9:10 PM

I read that the Pink girls train was a flop in 1957-58, but while I was browsing through the new Lionel catalog the soon to be built Conventional Classics 2010 version actually caught the attention of my girlfriend!  She's not a train person, but lately I've caught her curiously looking at the trains I keep on display.  It took me a few tries, but the truth came out when she admitted she wanted a train and that this set was perfect, as pink and ivory are her favorite colors.  So in the empty shelf space between the Empire Builder and an Ace A3 Scotsman will soon sit that infamous Pink Adriatic Laugh

Although neither of us fit the age demographic of Lionel, I guess my obsession with Lionel trains was bound to rub off on her at some point Big Smile

Don't forget the pastel transformer.

Williams did a run of the Pink Girl's set from the 50's a few years ago, just before selling out to Bachmann trains. So it seems that there is a product demand for the pink girl's set.

I ordered a set because the pink engine color will match my favorite pumps (I think).

Hmm, guess that's something a statistician would know.  I have no idea, but probably most of us don't fit the demographic, either.

Welcome, and good luck with the pink set.

The transformer was not pastel, but white with gold fittings:

I believe this is Lionels 4th release of the Girls Train.

Just went to Williams by Bachmann and they have three differant girl's train sets listed, starting near $455.00. A GG-1 freight, a 2-6-4 steam & freight and a GG-1 passenger set, theses sets come only with the engine and cars; No track or transformer.
