Ok,
I just got a Lionel GP-9 Command control Engine off of EBay. The seller says it was never ran but when I go to run it, when you first go to run it on a command track, the engine automaticly starts up without it being addressed. And when I do address it, it will run forward and backward and the couplers will work, but the horn, bell and talk feature will not work. I ran it conventionally and the horn does work that way, so I`m really confused. What am I missing? What is wrong with this engine?
Help!!!

have you tried a reset ? Not that up on them but do have a few and usually most recommend a reset first to see if that helps.
second first thing I do when get a engine that suposely never been run is check the wheels to see if they show signs of been run
Hope a reset works for you

Yea ... i think RT's right ... seems everything works ... just needs reprogrammed and setup . And did you lube it ... not anything to do with your problem but you should relube everything ... factory lube dries out usuually and they all recommend lubeing them before running ...
I remember having a similar problem when I had not "played with" my Command trains for a couple of years. You have to push the up arrow button right below the numeric keys to turn the keypad on. The split arrow below that turns the headlight on and off.
I thought my locomotive was not working properly when all I had to do was push a button!
I have an engine with the same problem and resetting did not help. Mine is with Railsounds and ERR command control boards. I tried everything Joe at ERR suggested, but nothing changed. So ERR said I could return it to them so they can figure out what's wrong.

Thanks everyone...
We did a factory reset on it and that fixed the problem.
GREAT .... that's what RT and I thought .... lube it though too !!!!
