Need help wiring Lionel 249E locomotive to Trainmaster KW

I have a 249E locomotive and train and a Trainmaster KW transformer but do not know how to wire it up.  The trans has 6, 14 and 20 V terminals, A. B and two "U" terminals.   What voltage is the train and which wire goes to the center rail?  I have no manuals. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Connect the U terminal to the outside rail. Connect either A or B to the center rail. The two U terminals are connected together inside the transformer. The 6, 14, and 20 volt outputs are for accessories. Hope this helps. Bruce Baker

Lube the loco before you run it. You can use 5W-20 engine oil or your favorite lube. Lube the axels, the side rods, the main rods, the gears, the shaft the gears are mounted on, and the armature bearings. Don't overdo it. If you don't have a pin oiler, put a little oil in a bottle cap and use a bent paper clip to put a drop or two of oil on the bearings and gears. When you are done, the wheels should turn freely. I lube the commutator as well as the gears and bearings, but this is controversial. You can do it if you want to. I have found it works well, but there are a lot of opinions on this forum. You should also lube the cars. Bruce Baker

Thanks Servoguy  You gave me the start I needed.  I also noticed that there are B and C terminals as well.  I guess they are for other tracks, but we are the small oval type operators.

The A and B terminals are variable voltage controlled by the two handles. C and D are fixed voltages for accessories. U is common for A, B, C (6 volts between C and U, fixed) and D (20 volts between D and U, fixed). The 14 volts fixed between C and D is not referenced to U, so if you use it for accessories, you cannot use U as a common.
