Confused  I'm not sure if I want to order this engine kinda half and half I like the features just not sure on the locomotive anyone here have past releases? do you like them whats the detailing like as I'm getting spoiled on the last 2 legacy engines as to detailing and new legacy sounds I have the GS-4 and my latest is the GE Evolution Diesel still not run it yet am enjoying just looking at it!

anyone else ordering the 700E ? I've read past release there were some issues with an assembly having parts installed wrong can it be corrected ? do you think it will be fixed this time? thanks for your input on this looks nice just not convinced totally.

I too  have lots of interest in one of these, but also lots of hesitation.  After the Chief's discussion of the 0-8-8-0 Legacy, I want to see what these do before I order one.  If it is under powered, not worth it.  Why would you have all the bells and whistles if it can only pull a few cars?  It does look really nice though.

You know it will be a throw of the dice. And I am sure there will be plenty of nick picking, after all this engine will be heavily scrutinized. But I will tell you this; if your not happy return it and use your money to purchase something else. If you do not sign up for one and its an genuine hit! than you may have missed out. I ordered a FEF U.P. in Black and it was beautiful, sound was fantastic, but I had so many  problems with the R2 unit in it, had it serviced twice. I could not get it to run right. I tried to get another one, but they were all sold out. So I got my money back and used it for other engine purchases. It really is a Win - Win to order it.

When the men get together its always done right! J. Daddy

Hopefully, we'll know more about this locomotive after York. Between the Museum presentation and questions asked at the Lionel booth we should get an idea of what to expect.

This is the only engine and thing I am ordering this year.  It has all I want and I just hope its not a clunker.

"Using most of ---"

For that kind of money, why would Lionel not go all the way.  From the photo, the "toy train" size Pilot Truck, as in the 1980s re-runs, back then a scale size Pilot Truck was made available as an option.  Unlike the 1937 scale 700E, blind center drivers again?    The 1937 version was made for O-72 track or for Display.  The new one is made to run.

For what it's worth, I have one of the first run 700E reproductions.

I have it on display in my living room, since it came with a display case with a perspex cover.

I haven't run it much but it ran well on every occasion, including running for long periods at an exhibition on standard O curves. The reproduction used all new dies for the locomotive, but made to the 1937 drawings. The original tender dies were reused, since they were only used for the original production run of 700E, since the 763, 773 and subsequent Hudsons never used the original tender.

It is a really good looking model but the detailing is that of 1937. The detail is coarser than would be used today, but it is all prototypical. The worst feature is the whistle (the fitting on the boiler, not the sound). My 700E looks exactly like the current catalog illustration, but of course it doesn't have a moving bell nor working marker lights (mine are jewels, not too bad).
