Hi, I recently purchased a 734 box car, but it is missign the cargo load. Can anyone who may have the original crate loads for the 734 box car tell me about them? Can you tell me the dimensions of the crates and what they were made of?
Thank you in advance,
George
The loads were crates. They were made of metal and about 1/2 x 1/2 x 3/8 I think. They are readily available by Portlines or other suppliers. They worked in conjunction with the 770 station. I think a milk can attached to a square base also worked but I have not tried the milk cans.
The action was the crates rolled down the coveyer, and when a coil inside the car was actived by the power pickup on the side of a truck, the side door opened and a man inside shoved the crate out, then retracted and the door closed, to repeat as the operator activated the switch.
Hope this helps
Jim
My answer and pictures may cause confusion. The accesory is the 770. It operated with a spring feeding the crates to the man on the end and the activation was the man would shove the crates down the ramp into the open 734 car. The load in the car would then dump the crates.
Hi, no confusion in your answer at all, thank you very much. I purchased some repro crates, they are metal, and pretty heavy. I was wondering if the origainals were stell wood or ??
So again, thank you,
Steel, and quiteheavy for the size.
