Hello,
I've got a fixer/upper GP-7 2328. The shell needs paint badly. How do I prep it for painting? Also is there anyway to repair those 6464 box cars with the Delrin knuckles? Are parts available? Any help with these two item will be greatly appreicated.
I bought replacement knuckles from East Coast Parts.Any parts dealer should be able to help you.
By Delrin knuckes, do you mean the ones that have built-in hinge pins, and don't require rivets?
If so, I'd appreciate knowing about a source for them.If you cannot find these knuckles, regular knuckles can be used with knuckle rivets. The knuckles were made in both metal and plastic..
You should probably think about stripping the engine before painting. Old fashioned oven cleaner will do the job nicely. Spray it on, leave it an hour or so, scrub with a tooth brush, then wash off. Repeat as neccessary. You can then prime, or paint. Krylon paints are good, but do not use Fusion paint. Weaver paints and Flowquil paints sell actual rail road colors too.

Just to be clear I bought the knuckles with the built in spring and uses the rivet.
Thanks for the info. Bob
