Question on a PW 2037 and reverse

 Thanks Bob for the info. I had actually more to undo, 2 screws for the cylinders assembley, and 2 more for the 2 side rod holders. But i got it apart and cleaned the terrible brushes and comm. They were really bad. Havent tested it yet, left the E-Unit alone, as I wasnt sure how to clean that yet.

In addition to the screw on top, there is a pin that you have to drive out.  It runs side-to-side and is located in the firebox behind the rear drivers.  Drive it out from the right side, so that the splined end emerges from the left side.  You also may find it necessary to take off one or both of the trucks to get things untangled.  When the motor comes out you will see a loose felt washer at the top of the smoke generator, to seal its connection with the smokestack.  Don't loose that nor forget to put it back in when you reassemble.  Here are some drawings:  http://pictures.olsenstoy.com/2037.htm

 Thanks - and if anyone is re-looking at this - um - I am new at these Steamers, but not afraid to tear into things, unless there are a lotta 'sproingers' ya know things that "sproing" outta place all of a sudden like, and you have no idea where they go. And other than the phillips screw on top of the boiler, I am unsure of what gets undone next to continue pulling it apart, to see the brushes and e-unit.

Also make sure the e-unit drum is clean.  Cleaning the drum, brushes, and commutator solved the same problem for me on a 2034 recently acquired.

The 2037 steamer that I got, runs really great in forward, but barely moves in reverse. Is there something simple that I should look at?
