Beware of the Lionel repair manuals being passed off on Ebay that come as a 2 CD set. Mine came from a vendor in Hong Kong. They were nothing more than copies of papers that came with operating accessories, engines, and cars. I consider what I recieved as junk and mostly worthless. There is absolutely NO repair stuff in them.

ED WHITEFORD,

The shame of the matter is that Lionel will sometimes sell some parts to people who do their own repair, or whatever, even if that individual is not affiliated with Lionel and that the individual does not try to pass themselves off, as being affiliated with Lionel.

If, you notice, on Lionel's Web.site, it is becoming more difficult to find certain parts, as I had needed some trim parts and 'Lionel' told me that the parts are not sold separately, that I would have to buy the whole diesel body shell, the shell item is not in stock and Lionel does not know when the shell will be available.  Some of those diesel shells cost at least $100.00, or more.

That is my latest experience with Lionel.

Lionel must have a great course, especially for three days, it sounds more like a military, or special occupational school.

I wonder, for the length of the course and it's price, if one can obtain college credits?

My apologies, you are correct, these disks are from a company called lionelmanuals.com. Have you had any experience with them?

I bought those CD's also and am not happy with them.

The people at Hybrid Systesms Inc, (hslinc.com), make an excellent product according to other people that I have been in contact with.

Got the same disk.

Don't really like them either. They do have some good information in them if you can find it.

I can usually find what I need in book form better. as for repair schools there are only two ways of getting into them that I know of and this comes from them them selfs.

1st, You must be an authorized service center. Hole lot of hopes to jump thru to become one.

2nd, If you are not one you must be sponsored by one in order to attend a class/school.

These are the only way of going to them as I have been told by them. I have been wanting to attend them but was told I do not meet there qualifications. I am trying to learn the job so I can take it over from my dad as he has been servicing trains for over 45+ years and still doing it.

If you go to Lionel's web sight they are slowly placing specs on there web sight. Takes some doing to find what you need but these come from Lionel them selfs and I was told that over time they plan on having all the information you need on the sight thru them.

Hi Friends,

Here is the real deal:  http://www.hslinc.com/ .  I am the product co-author along with Bill Schmeelk.  You probably know Bill as he has been very active with the Lionel Collectors Club of America through the years (serving as President among other positions).  He has written over 150 consecutive articles in his column entitled "Lionel News and Views" (in the LCCA's publication The Lion Roars).  You will also see Bill helping out at the Lionel booth at York twice a year!  Our Lionel Postwar Service Manual Digital Archive is authorized and licensed by Lionel.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or need any additional information.

jadmiral,

I have to agree with carlb01464,

That, 'Lionel.com' is not affiliated with the actual Lionel Corp., or whatever they call themselves now-a-days!

Chief,

I understand what you mean, but I did not specify, besides Lionel's personnel, others who have businesses which are affiliated with Lionel.

On the other hand, can anyone attend Lionel's classes, as long, as they pay the fee and not have an affiliation with Lionel?

Hey Gang, I just received my 2 disc set of Lionel Repair Manuals from lionelrepairs.com. Boy are they hard to negotiate. I cannot find any repair sections. Does anyone else have or tried these?? So far I am very unimpressed!

Something is arousing my curiosity here. There is no website selling manuals calling themselves lionelrepairs.com. You might not have official Lionel Repair Manuals. There is a site calling themselves lionelmanuals.com which is in no way affiliated with Lionel. Is this where you actually got those manuals? There is a company that sells the real thing and people have written a lot of good things about it. They are licensed by Lionel but the name escapes me right now.

Two of my buddies at Todd's Train Depot went to their training school.  It was really great and informative.  Ralph, I think you missed it.  Sorry.

jadmiral,

It seems that Lionel don't want to share their repair secrets, so that one would have to rely on their repair services.  You know, it keeps their repair personnel employed.

Just my thoughts of two cents worth.
