Rob, I checked the other forum and you're the one with the Red and Tacky. How long have you been doing this. It really makes the horiz motors run more quietly?

Yes, very quiet.  I didn't fess up right away as I wanted to be sure you got some input separate from mine.

Since I started using the R&T I was looking for an easy way to grease w/o dis-assembly when I came across an unused syringe from an inkjet refill kit a few years ago.  All my F-3's & Berks/Turbines get the treatment now with very satisfactory results, and I never sense the need to service them after long term storage as they are quiet right out of the box.

I will get some but honestly I've never been sure where the bushings are exactly and what's inside these motors that can't be seen unless opened up. Which I don't want to get into. So run the motors on blocks, get'em hot I suppose, and inject grease until you see it come out on the geared end? thanks, Mike S.

The oil always gets past the shaft bushings, especially if they are worn(usually resulting in to much oil being used).  Mobil 1 works well for quite a while, if you stick with oil, but you have to be sure to tip the motor fore & aft to oil to both bushings, especially on the single worm drive 671/2020/726/736/746 motors that have a pronounced slant.

I saw a great post on the other forum mentioning this spot on the horiz motors. I use light oil in this reservoir but many, or at least one that i know of, mentions injecting Red and Tacky into the reservoir with a syringe while the motor is running and hot. Others have stated that light labelle type oil will simply run out. I dont' think I've noticed that. What's the consensus here? Lionel instructions simply state that this reservoir was filled at the factor and doesn't require much maintenance, but of course they didn't know these puppies would still be running. Mike S.
