Four of the five postwar ATSF F3 sets had two motors.  If yours has motors with vertical shafts, its a 2383.  Here is its wiring diagram:  http://pictures.olsenstoy.com/cd/locos/loc2333a.pdf

Otherwise, it's a 2333, 2343, or 2353:  http://pictures.olsenstoy.com/cd/locos/loc2300a.pdf

Hi Andy

Get a copy of Greenbergs repair and operating manual for lionel trains 1945-1969 seventh edition

It's all in there

Any good book store can order it for you or go to amazon.com

Andy,

Can you please post more info!! For somebody to help you we need more info! What is the number on the Lionel F-3 diesel? There are post war and MPC(mid-70's to 80's) Lionel F-3's and the wiring will be differant for differant year models. Also was it a single unit F-3 or an two unit like an A-B combo?

One of my friends was recently given a set of Lionel F3's in Santa Fe colors and 3 silver post war passenger cars. they were pulled out of the trash after MANY years of sitting in an outside storage shed. Needless to say they are in rough condition. I was given the set to see if i can do anything with them to get them in running condition again. I took the cab off the powered unit and put it on my layout. The light worked fine and the e-unit seemed to function ok.The problem lies with the wiring. All the wires leading to both the truck mounted motors had disinagrated. I would like to re wire the unit and try to get it operating again. I am not looking to restore the engine or set for that mater, just get it working again. Can anyone on here please get me a wiring schematic for this unit so I can see if I can make it ride the rails once more?
