Thanks for the postings today folks.  Jim SP that 332 is a beauty.  Flyer's big engines are always a lot of fun to see chugging down the tracks.  It looks like that one and the cars are in excellent shape.

This week Wausau is hosting an annual event known as the Badger State Games.  Its based on the Winter Olympics and its billed as the largest amature competion in the nation, open to all ages. It brings a lot of folks to town.  So as you might expect the Blueboard Central Division of American Flyer Lines  has been exceptionally busy bringing athletes and spectators to town.

 

There have been quite a few extras added to the schedule to handle the volume of passengers.  The station agent says that he has been busier than a one armed paper hanger.

 

 

I got a couple of good shots of the trains moving through town from the top of the tallest building in town.

The past few weeks I have been showing pictures of my Lionel Conventional Classics. Here is a final roundup of the Locos, cabooses and a freight car or two from each of them. I'd show all the cars of the trains, but the table isn't long enough! As of yesterday, all of my sets are put away, but not for long. Other trains will make their appearance, one way or another. I noticed this subtle change in the two Pennsylvania cabooses. Same numbers, but the Thunderbird set, recreated from 1954's FM Trainmaster freight has a PRR caboose saying which zone it is assigned. New York Zone if you can't read it clearly. By the time the 646 steam freight came along in 1956, no zone designation was made. Would a cut corner like this have saved the 1950s era Lionel any considerable amount of money?

I don't think it was a cost saving measure, my guess it was an oversight when they tooled the paint mask.

Why does it have to be a cut corner? The more likely explanation is that they want each year's caboose to have some diffentiating characteristic to make the different years discernable from one to the next.

Jim,

       You did VERY well.  I've always liked those link coupler freights. You need a 631 T&P gondola and a 625 Shell tank car to round that set out.  Have you tried the Rectiformer yet?

I've got the 48 shell 625 and the T&P 631.  There was a 630 Reading caboose but I did not show it.

I replaced the reciformer and it works great.  It is neat because on the back there are AC terminals for accesories and DC variable for the trains.
