Hey....do you guys think a 2034 is worth restoring or is there a better pw 2-4-2 to restore??? not looking from a collector view but from a operator view....thanks
Go for it! They aren't rare, but they aren't real common either. The motor is the same that the 520 boxcab uses-- pretty reliable, esp. for starter set type locomotion. I finally found a nice one, and it surprises people how it can keep up with (or even embarass) some of its pricier brethren...
check this link, if you haven't seen it already: http://www.postwarlionel.com/cgi-bin/postwar?ITEM=2034
Sure, why not restore your 2034, it has nice lines and is better than the plastic bodied 2-4-2's. It's a nice starter set engine with a cast metal boiler and a good reliable motor. I found one at a train show that was all beat up. I stripped the paint, repainted with soft black with a silver nose and added handrails. The tender I also repainted and relettered Pere Marquette.
