Wherever you go there is good and bad. I don't think that there is a perfect place except on our layouts. Time for bed, 4:45 comes around quick. We have a big conference call on the preperations for the "BIG SNOW STORM".

John,

To get your gasoline pumped you need one of two things; first a Handicap sign or placard from the rearview mirror or two, you pay an extra 21 to 30 cents a gallon for somebody to pump your gas down here. This is Florida!! Even politicians charge you for any kind of an answer, speaking of politicians about a third of our prison population is former politiciansSign - Oops that got caught doing wrongBanged Head. Also the Driver's License offices, the clerks were selling licenses to alien residents.

Welcome.  Lot of talk here about Yankee vs Southern.

8ntruck
I'm a Yankee, and have to keep reminding some that dirt is black, not red, gravy is brown, not white,  grits is a system for telling how rough your sandpaper is, and iced tea is made with water, not simple syrup.

Guess I'm backwards (as usual).  Family moved north when I was a kid.  Back in the '70s I was in New Awlens (that's New Orleans to you Yanks) for a few years.  They thought I was one, too.

Found out the difference between a Yankee and *** Yankee.  Yankees visit the South for a while.  *** Yankees move there.

By the way, grits are to eat, but mixed with your over medium eggs, not drowned in butter.

The more we talk about it, staying where we are might be the best idea. We live 2 blocks from Barnegat Bay, the boat is a 1/2 mile away. My taxes are reasonable. My daughter bought the house across the street. My neighbors are GREAT. Gas is $2.41 - $2.45 as of coming home from work a 1/2 hour ago and the attendant pumps it for that price.

John,

Down here in West Palm Beach FL area, we have a new class of unemployed or street people, a.k.a. homeless persons. Unemployment is extremely high, almost 20% here in WPB Florida, other places it could be higher. Gasoline prices are high as well, about five cents above national average, the Florida Keys(Key Largo to Key West) prices are even higher for gasoline.

There is news about a high speed rail line going between Tampa and Jacksonville and Miami FL. This will produce jobs; both short term, people constructing it, and long term, people running the rail line.

Lee F:   She puts in the hours. My wife and her sister bought an ice cream shop about 5yrs. ago, that went from a good reputation to a bad one. They cleaned it up, improved the product, reinvested in updating the equipment, finished in the top 3 the last 4 years at the NJ Ice Cream Festival, business is constantly improving and the accountant congratulated them by telling them that they are now making about 55 cents an hour. ( he is a good friend of ours and loves to tease them ). Thanks for the info about housing in Florida. I agree with you about condos. One of our retireees moved to Citrous County, (Hope I spelt it right) and he described it as being close enough to everything without the congestion and traffic. A country like setting. We were planning on going to Florida this year and stop to see him, but he died this past September.

Welcome. I'm in Philly. But we all can't be perfect. Laugh Speaking of grits and sweet tea, man that sounds good on a cold day like today. Hot grits with a pat of butter all they have up here is instant grits.

Geez, I'd figure you for either pork roll or scrapple.....and a cup o' joeLaugh

Tell her to work some more hours as well or get a job!!

House prices have fallen a whole lot here in south Florida, but stay away from condo's(condo is another word for stealing from your banking account legally, if you live in one you will find out the hard way!). A house that used to sell for around $300,000.00 can be had for close to $170,000.00, the real estate market is in the buyer's court right now.

Another thing that you may want to look at is called a time share.

FLORIDA, If my wife has her way about it,(she usually does) when I retire in 2yrs. 7mo. 9days, she wants to get a place in Florida, but keep the house in NJ. When I ask where the money is coming from to do both, she says to work more OT.

Sign - Welcome John,

I am what you call a transplanted northerner, originally from Scranton Pennsylvania. Moved to Florida after getting out of the U.S. Army in 83.

Mainly I like O gauge but will do some S gauge or H.O. trains at times. I have some pre war and post war trains but don't run them much as it is hard to keep them running, replacement parts for the motors like brushes are hard to get.

To help keep the joke running about Sandy, we have Sandy Claws(a cat with sand in his paws) down here, the big cat(Florida Panther) that roams Florida freely.

INTRODUCTION
Posted by Hudson#685 on Sunday, January 31, 2010 1:40 PM

Let me take a second to introduce myself. First, the knowledge on this forum is invaluable and everyone seems friendly and the "egos" don't seem to exist. Everyone respects each others opinions and that is a good thing. Please don't change. I go by the screenname, Hudson#685, for a couple of reasons. 1. It is the first engine that I ever owned. It came with my first set, #2201WS which I received for Christmas, 1953. 2. It is still my favorite engine. I am looking forward to sharing experiences, knowledge, techniques and friendships.
