installing small rivets
Posted by ChuckM on Friday, January 29, 2010 12:27 PM

HI, looking for advice on installing small rivets.

Specifically, These are small 1615-62 rivets that are used to connect some linking rods that are on the outside locomotive wheels.

Do I need a special tool to do this (I only have to install 2) or are there some alternative methods and/or best practices that people use to do this.

thanks

chuck

 Chuck,

You can carefully try using a center punch to open up the eyelet. Tap lightly and try to evenly open and fold back around the sides. You'll need something pretty solid placed under the back of eyelet. Robert Grossman at: trainpartsformarx.com; telephone 216-738-0602 has three eyelet setting tools, sort of small, medium and large.
