Ross Custom Switches durability
Posted by stuartmit on Thursday, January 28, 2010 10:04 PM

In the last two weeks, I have had 2 Ross double switches fail in the same way; the pinned connection of the points to the fibre piece which spans the switch and connects as well to the switch machine linkage have pulled out of the fibre piece so that one of the rails is now loose . I have been unsucessful in reattachment, and to even make the attempt requires removal of the turnout from the layout which is a big pain; of course replacement with a new $60-70.00 switch requires the removal. The new ingredient is a 671 I recently purchased, admittedly a heavy loco, but all these old O gauge locos are heavy. Anyone have any luck asking for a no charge replacement? The switch is about a year old.

I've had Ross switches for a number of years.  During that time I had one that was shorting out on me, found a spike driven at an angle that was the problem.  I called Ross just to advise them and they offered to replace the switch, didn't need a replacement.  Try giving them a call.

Have had mine (26) for 4 years, no problems.  Did have a switch motor go out, they replaced immediately.   Found them to be very helpful as well.
