Researching Chun King Set
Posted by dingie on Tuesday, January 19, 2010 9:54 AM

Have full Chun King Set, circa 1955, that I am not finding in Greenberg's or elsewhere.  Can anyone direct me to a reference site for authenticating and pricing?

Here is a link to an auction picture:  http://www.liveauctioneers.com/item/376954

The Chun King boxcar is numbered 6014, a number which Lionel used for a number of boxcars.  Greenberg' s Guide to Lionel Trains, 1945-1969, Volume I: Motive Power and Rolling Stock says that it was made in 1956 as part of the X-150 promotional set and refers the reader to Volume IV: Uncataloged Sets, which I do not have.

The Lionel set x-150 was made in 1956. It contained Lionel 520 box cab, 6012 black gondola, the 6014 Chun King boxcar and a 6017 caboose, also track and 1015 transformer.

Also states that the x-150 set was one of the earliest uncatalogued sets and was the first to include a special promotional car. Price in the book says $250-$550. But remember these are guides and more likely you may get about half of the prices listed. $125-$250 is more in line.

Also this ALL depends on the condition of  the box and the pieces that are in it.

The above was found in the Greenburg's Uncatalogued Sets.

Thanks, Butleryard. IF YOU CAN READ THIS, THANK A TEACHER! IF YOU ARE READING THIS IN ENGLISH, THANK A SOLDIER!
