What would you like to see reissued?
Posted by Lionel 773 hudson on Friday, January 15, 2010 7:17 PM

With the Lionel corps and conventional classics line the sky s the limit. I would like to see some Super O, a flyer switch, and T-rail included in the offerings.

That would be cool. I would like to see a 736 or 726 Berkshire, a Turbine steamer, and a 773 Hudson.

Give me steam locomotives or give me DEATH!

I would like to see a "Post War Ultimates" series.  This would be high-tech versions of Post War classics, with RailSounds 5.5, Legacy, and Legacy Cruise.

I'd like to see a 773 Hudson with Legacy.  This is what I will save my nickles and dimes for.  Probably going to be expensive?

lionelsoni is probably smiling right now about this interest in the 773.....he's got his!  I'll let Bob tell his jackpot story.  So many of us "middle aged" guys wound up with baby Hudsons (646, 2046, 2056) because Santa's crystal ball was out of adjustment for a few years.Wink  Sorry if I am sounding like I am jumping on the bandwagon but the 773 and a Berk would be my choices in steam.  Jack.

IF IT WON'T COME LOOSE BY TAPPING ON IT, DON'T TRY TO FORCE IT. USE A BIGGER HAMMER.

For those who didn't hear the story, I found a 1950 773 and tender at a train show for $50, which happens to be the original list price.  It was very dirty and had some easily repairable superficial damage, but cleaned up nicely.

I agree with you on Super O -- especially with some wider-radius curves, and preferable with Fastrak-style overlapping-contact center rail in place of the old copper clips. But alas, I doubt that it's going to happen in the foreseeable future.

Don't know if this would be classified as a "re-issue" but I would like to see Lionel make some more of the shorter boxcars like in the '6454' postwar series to compliment the originals in size and weight.  There are a number of rr lines that were never used.

773 Hudson with no electronics or can motors. Berks have been done to death.

I might spring for a reproduction of the City of Denver.

I never thought about that one, but you're absolutely right. Those were beautifully-made boxcars, and I'd certainly buy more if the new ones matched the old ones in quality. I wonder if the tooling for the 6454 series still exists.

RUMOR has it that there might be a reissue of the Lionel 700e Hudson in Legacy.  Just a rumor.

Bob,

Just curious, how does your 773 run on 0-27?    I take it from other post that you have made, that your layout is 0-27 profiled rail, was wondering how your 773 does on the switches and such.   Thanks..Alan

The "new" 1950 773 can't do O27; so it is confined to my outer main line, which has minimum O34 curves (15.75-inch radius).

My "old" mid-sixties 773 (which pulls a metal-whistle 2426W tender from a pre-1950 726 Berkshire) is considerably modified to handle O27 and can run anywhere on the layout.  I changed the leading- and trailing-truck geometries.  I slightly widened the gauge of the driver wheels and shimmed out their end play to keep the pickups from touching the outside rails on O27 turnouts.  I also changed the quartering to right-side lead when I had the wheels off, since the original left-side lead was used only by NYC rival PRR.  I also modified the locomotive and tender electrically to work with my non-standard half-wave track power.

Right now... nothing because my wallet can't handle any more train related expenses!

When my budget expands I am banking on a C&O 4-6-4 Streamlined Hudson Yellowbelly with Legacy. I would really, really, really love to see this done as a VisionLine engine with all the bells and whistles (no pun intended). It would be the icing on my train collection!

How about the Pre-War Lionel Build-A-Loco & Build-A-Motor kits? Or kit versions of other engines, like what Lionel did with the 700K (K = Kit) version of the 700EW Scale Hudson.

Nothing - If they're going to build trains with a prewar look/feel build something new same goes for postwar.   How about new tin litho freight cars (just look to the Atlas billboard reefers for inspiration) or maybe a sheet metal/diecast John Wilkes on the scale of a #226. For the postwar look - how about a B&O presidential 4-6-2 - correct shape boiler but postwar "scale" something on the size of #2046 with extruded aluminum passnger cars with the correct tail car treatment?
