The worm shaft isn't part of the motor.

Try Mike's trains & hobbies.  http://www.mikestrainsandhobbies.com.  805-736-6747.  He is near Santa Barbara, California.  I met him at a train swap meet, and he has a huge selection of parts.

You might be better off to buy a whole motor.  I think your motor has ball bearing thrust bearings, and so you would need them also along with the thrust washers.

I just measured the shaft in a motor from an early 671.  It is 3.312" long.  I think pressing the shaft into the armature without damaging the commutator would be a good trick.

Did you try Jeff Kane at The Train Tender.  I don't see the part number you refer to in HIS list, but that doesn't mean he doesn't have it.  He is very knowledgeable as to what part goes with what, and can often supply what you need. Contact jeff@ttender.com

1946 Berkshire horizontal worm shaft assembly , part # 726-9

Help !   I am in desperate need  of the horizontal worm shaft assembly and two shaft bearings for the early 726 Berkshire , part # 726-9 .  Although listed as available by several parts suppliers , what I  have  been sent is actually the shaft from the 1946 671,which in a number of references erroniously lists the same part numbr as the 726  part . The early 726 shaft is approximately 4.8 inches in length while the 671 shaft is 3.95 inches . I am at my wits end .   If anyone has a  shaft please contact me . I am even considering machining a new one , but I don't even have an original shaft to copy .I would genuinely appreciate any assistance in this regard . Thanks, Bart Cook
