Anyone else buy the Lionel New Haven F3AA "McGinnis"??

Just wondering... I waited a long time for Lionel to make these and am pretty happy overall and the paint is beautiful.

I'm just trying to compare notes to someone else that also bought this Conventional Classics engine... both "A" units on my set are missing the pilot skirt, leaving a big rather unattractive hole in the front... Are they suppossed to be like that??  The number boards are of a different style on the powered "A" versus the dummy "A" (white numbers on black on one "A" and black on white on the other "A".  One says #2342 and the other #2242... no big deal there, but I think they were supposed to both be #2342.  Also, the box for the dummy "A" appears to have been "borrowed" for the "B" unit for the other New Haven "Checkerboard" set as it says "B unit"  #2242C, but I guess I can live with that too.

My engine doesn't work but with some tinkering I think I can get it to run and the bulb seems to be missing from the dummy A unit but those should be easy fixes...

I wish they did not rush to get this out if they were not ready but am overall happy just to finally have a New Haven "McGinnis" F3.

So far I have only had the dummy unit out of the box.  You are right about the hole in the pilot being rather large, but it doesn't bother me, it's not that bad.  I love the colors.  It's an archive engine so I figure it's OK if the paint scheme doesn't exactly match anything prototypical.  I plan to run NH freight or archive series cars behind mine.  Given time, I think this is one engine that will be on the want list of a lot of fence sitters right now.  I did not remove the power unit because I had such a hard time getting the dummy out of the box with all the styrofoam and cardboard wrapped around the engine.  I'll need help getting it back in the box.  Looking forward to powering the pair up in the near future.

hi guys,  I have three of the new F3's: both sets of the NH and the SF.  THey all look great and run fine (i did lube them according to instructions,  which made a difference in how they sound while running.) The box for the Dummy A unit was the same as the Dummy B unit from the NH freight set  as well  so that could be how they were put together.

With respect to getting the powered units out of their boxes, I ended up opening both ends and just pushing the unit out, I felt that was the way to cause the least damage to the box.  Once you get the inner package out, you will need to cut that tape to remove the units any way.

I did notice on box for the 2507 set, it looks like someone had used a box cutter on it some where down the production line. The set came double boxed and had not been opened at my dealer store.

overall i am really thrilled about the sets.

I was going to also suggest tha double check the Electronic E-unit direction lock switch underneath the engine to make sure it is not locked in neutral. make sure that the switch is in the RUN position. It sounds a little odd that the light for the dummy unit is not working.  Does the light for the  powered A unit come on?
