I have a 380E that is dark green and in C7 condition. I was wondering, how much might this loco be worth? It is all original and rewheeled. I have owned it for many years and wanted to know its value. Thanks.
Cool, thank you very much. I was wondering how do you rewheel a loco such as the 380E? Just in case it needs rewheeled again, I want to make sure I know how. I have some spare wheels and axles that I have kept over the years. I am sure they are the right ones. But, it looks tricky getting at the wheels. Would I have to take apart the whole motor assembly? Thanks.
Its tricky business and is best left to special tools. Yes the entire loco needs torn down and the motor assembly removed.
The one non-geared wheel is loose off the axle and just twirls around. The loco kinda jerks back and forth on the track when I go around a small loop of track. Any idea why it jerks back and forth?? Might it be the wheel? It has repro bowser wheels. Seems like the axle has nothing for the wheel to catch onto. They are worn down, the axle is. I cannot tear down this loco, not a good idea for me to do. The wiring is brittle too, original. The bulbs, they should be 432's, correct? 18V lamps? Now, I just have the loco pulling my gondola cars, 2 of them. They gears do not grind, I guess it would be okay to run it. The loose wheel is in place, but off center. You think maybe, I should order another repro wheel? Because I noticed when you push the wheel in as far as it goes, it is too close to the motor housing, and there is a gap or play when put on the track. I might just get another wheel and try to put that on. What you think? Thanks.
Why doesn't the motor and frame come out of the 380E?? The frame is welded or soemthing to the body. I tried releasing the 4 tabs, but it will not come out. So, I gave up and put the 4 tabs back in place. Seems like it is sealed on there pretty good. Could not get at that wheel to fix it. I have no idea what to do now with that loose wheel. How much you think a hobby shop will charge to fix 1 loose wheel?? Might just need to replace an axle and wheel at most. I am guessing $80 or under for that type of repair. Might take like 3 weeks. thanks.
Nevermind, I fixed the wheel. Everything works just great now!! Thanks.
