I have a Lionel whistling tender marked 6466W. This morning I saw a picture of a 6466W tender on a web site but the photo showed what looked like a railing on the top back of the tender. Mine does not have a railing or any indication that there may have been one (like a hole or scratch marks).
Would you know if there were two types made or if mine is incorrectly marked? (Mine came with my 2035 engine.) As always, many thanks.
Earlier versions had the railing. It was gone by the time your locomotive was made. I have a shell with the railing that you can have if you want it. It's completely intact, but with most of the paint gone.

Bob: Thanks. Check E-Mail.
I believe the 6466W tender is correct for your 2035. The 6466WX tenders came with the ornamental wire railing.
From what I have seen in the Greenberg's price guide the 6466WX was made from 1946 to 1949, and the 6466W was made after 1949. Also not listed as a seperate sale item by Greenberg's, so I am guessing the tender had to be sold with an engine.
Sometimes O gauge got the fancier stuff on their tenders compared to 027, or if it was listed as more expensive at the time of sale(in a catalog) it may have fancier stuff like handrails or silver axle box covers.

I have the same tender & loco. Just like yours, mine has no railing - never did. I've had mine since it was new in 1951. The set also included a double top Sunoco tanker, Lehigh Valley 25000 hopper, NYC 6462 gondola, and Lionel 6257 caboose. Don't know if this was a cataloged set or not. Pretty basic set, but It still runs great.

Charlie: You hit the nail on the head! That's the set I have. Thanks.
