Giveaway
Posted by lionelsoni on Saturday, January 2, 2010 4:09 PM

I have gathered up a few things that I doubt I will ever need.  I will send them to anyone who wants them and is willing to pay the postage.  They are:

A lot of prewar American Flyer O-gauge 3-rail track, similar to Lionel O31, not at all shiny, but with very little rust, 18 10-inch straights and 12 O40 curves.

A lot of Marx turnout controllers.  Each has two red-green pairs of pushbuttons.  There are 4 that have 3x6-inch bases and 5 with 2.5x5-inch bases.  The lot includes a generous glob of black-red-green zip-cord cables.

A Marx crossing bell with a crossing sign.  The bell rings continuously when energized.

A British "ALDERMAN 'A' TRANSFORMER, FOR 200/250 V 50-100 CYCLES A.C. (70 WATT)"  "VARIABLE VOLTAGES AT 3 1/2 AMPS", "S AND 1 4 V.- 12V.", "S AND 2 6 V.- 14 V.", "S AND 3 10 v.- 18 V.", "FIXED VOLTAGES AT 3 1/2 AMPS", "1 AND 2 2 V.", "2 AND 3 4 V.", "1 AND 3 6 V."  It has a good cord ("flex") and a British 13-ampere plug with a good 3-ampere fuse in it.

Bob, you may want to get ahold of Tom "Spankybird" with regard to a donation to their museum.  It would help the museum and give you a tax right off.

Got it.  I'll let you know the postage.

Anyone else for the transformer or the turnout controllers (which can be used for lots of other things that need pushbuttons)?

Well I am brand new to the forum and have just dived back into the world of O, or in my case Marx 3/16 O so I would LOVE to take those Marx controlllers off your hands if you still have them. While I'm at it I'd like to say thank you too as you have posted some GREAT answers to questions I have had. Due to my running across the forum during my web searches I have never had to ask them as I have already found the answers here! What a great site.

Send me your address, Ted, and they're yours.  After I mail them, I'll let you know what the postage was.  You do understand that these are the controllers for the turnouts, that is, the pushbuttons, not the turnouts themselves, right?

Bob: If I have this right these are the controllers with two sets of red & green buttons that came with a pair of Marx switches. I understand this is for the controllers only, trust me I have enough switches as I have been an E-Bay fiend the last two weeks, but am actually short of some controllers for a couple of pairs. My address is: Ted Parrott 702 Granite St. Pacific Grove Ca. 93950 I really appreciate this, let me know the postage and I'll fire a check off to you, or I can even Pay Pal it to you if you prefer.  You can tell I'm real new. I have 2 Marx and 3 Lionel 1024 turnouts that just have a lever to switch. Do the pushbuttons switch the turnouts or are they for something else? Also when I put two turnouts on my track it shorts it out, so I'm gussing there is a short from the middle rail? I am trying to find a group or club in the Tulsa, Claremore area that will be a big help. I have already lurned a lot on this forum also.

thanks for all the help..

Steve: Marx switches are wired internally like HO switches, they do not use track power to operate like Lionel switches. The Marx switches use a control panel with two buttons on it, the panel is powered from your transformers accessory posts. I believe you MUST use insulating pins on certain rails on your Lionel switches as they use track power to operate the solenoid coils that move the switch points. If these insulating pins are not installed you may be causing a dead short through your switches? I'm sure someone on here will help you solve the mystery.
