First it was the plastic pin placement.  Then the switch controller with a broken ground connection.   Cleaned, lubricated, resoldered and all is well in 072 switch land.   Thanks.

It sounds like the classic case of a metal pin where a plastic one is suppose to be. Look carefully at the one thats working and make sure the  plastic pins are in place on the one  that chatters. If thats not it, you would have to find a shorted wire in the switch.

Chattering O 72 Lionel Switch
Posted by hirailr64 on Saturday, January 2, 2010 3:14 PM

I have two 072 Lionel switches that are connected and the curves to create a passing siding.  Both switches are connected to transformer power direct.  When I test one switch for operation it works perfectly and the other chatters.   I have disconnected the controller and used a screwdriver to go from the center post 2 to each of the other posts 1 & 3.  2 to 1 the switch chantters and from 2 to 3 it does nothing.

 Any help would be appreciated.
