Lionel O-Gauge Engine #224 Wiring
Posted by toadandsin on Friday, January 1, 2010 7:49 PM
I have a problem. My e-unit was not working properly, I opened up the engine and a wire broke. I think I found where it belongs (from motor, spliced to e-unit and light) but the solenoid will not work. It works if you power it directly side terminal to side terminal of solenoid but will not operate with switch. I am thinking the wire I replaced is wrong. Is there a wiring schematic available anywhere? What type of modern wire is recommended for replacement? Is there a complete engine overhaul direction out there?

I find Greenburg's Repair and operating Manual For Lionel Trains 1945-1969 very helpful along with other books that I have acquired through the years. My edition (#7) has both the #224 steamer and the #224 Navy Alco Diesel in it. Hope that it is helpful.
