I just received this Loco that I bought from eBay for my 2-1/2 year old grandson. I don’t know much about it except that is Lionel with a plastic body and the number1062. I didn’t know they made plastic steamers.
Anyway I cleaned it up and it sure runs good pulling 10 cars. The cars are from the Winter Wonderland set that has all the moving parts and lights. I only need to find cheep a transformer and tender and he will be in business. I already have lots of extra track and even some old freight cars to give him.
Just out of curiosity when did Lionel start making plastic Locos and how old would you say this one is?
About 47 years old. The first one (1001) looked very much like yours and was made in 1948.

Wow, no kidding. It runs so good, that I would never have guessed.
Thanks for the info.
The Lionel #1062 was cataloged in 1963-64. It was originally cataloged as a 0-4-0, but was produced as 2-4-2 for an uncataloged set. The body is similar to the earlier 1050, 1060, and 1061. It was based on the 1948 1001 Scout body.
There were four variants of this engine.
As a side note, MANY Lionel steam engines had plastic bodies in both the Post War and MPC era.
