Cloned.

Originally popped from sand castings, I think, back in the 1970's(the GG-1, anyway) when the company was named "Williams Reproductions, Limited" or "WRL".

The tooling has been revamped & improved on most all Williams products several times since.

Williams GG1 and FM tooling
Posted by O-27 on Saturday, December 26, 2009 8:41 AM

Hi all,

I had a question about Williams tooling. I think they make a great product. I noticed the FM and GG1 shells are very close to the Lionel originals as are the 2400 series streamline passenger cars. Does anyone know if they actually aquired lionel tooling or "cloned" a tool from original Lionel pieces? I havent compaired an F3 yet but apart from the pilot they look very close in pictures.

                               Thanks,

                                       Seth
