lionel train track problems
Posted by big D on Tuesday, December 22, 2009 9:04 PM
Sorry I left, but I didn't think the response would be so quick. I am running a lionel 027 track with the 1033 transformer. The engine says 027 on the bottom. I put an OTC connection on each side of the layout to get a better connection. Oops, it is a CTC lockon.

The OTC's will not accomplish what you are trying to do.  You need  LTC, UTC, or CTC lockons.

There are two kinds of OTC lockons, one of which will do what he wants.  Perhaps he has that prewar kind:

"'Lockon' Track Connections (Patent No. 1542337)

"Lionel 'Lockon' Connections are attached to the track...  The electric connection is as perfect as though the parts were riveted or soldered to the track....'Lockon' Connections should be used wherever electric accessories require connection with the track

"OTC 'Lockon' for 'O' Gauge Track..."

As much as I like the wire clips on the prewar OTC, I figured he would only have exposure to the postwar OTC based on the era of the equipment he was describing.

It looks like he edited the post to reflect he has CTC lockons.

Even in my modest prewar collection, UTC's outnumber OTC's about 4 to 1.
