I am looking to build an O scale layout and I am looking for a little bit of advice. I had a Lionel layout about 30 years ago, so my only experience has been with Lionel. I am wondering what is the quality and durability of Atlas or MTH O scale diesel locomotives and rolling stock. Is there any other manufacturer that I should be looking at. I am looking at building a 3 rail system and will probably use GarGraves track and Ross Switches. Any other suggestions or feedback would be great.
If you are not getting into Command Control, look at Williams Trains, by Bachmann.

Atlas O and M.T.H. O Scale rolling stock are similar, but the plastic bodies on M.T.H. rolling stock are thicker and harder. Atlas O and M.T.H. types have couplers that work together, but are not exactly the same height, which is only a problem on the very long freight cars.

Another which has been left out is weaver they sell both regular and tmcc engines also sell 2 rail and 3 rail so you need to be sure what your looking at if your looking on an auction site like ebay also you need to see if it has a drive shaft set up or not if it does I would ver away as they do have problems as I'm finding out right now. it has been said about the older ones best motor in the business worst drive train in the business.
of coarse lionel there is also K-line by lionel and then mth has also railking and as mentioned williams by bachmann which if you want to goto tmcc you can buy a upgrade command set from electricrr.com and then have tmcc in your williams.
