Automatic whistle
Posted by smokymtguy on Sunday, December 20, 2009 10:33 AM

Anyone know if it is possible to sound the horn or whistle of any diesel or tender without pushing the horn button everytime.  We have the train about the the tree and just let it run in the evenings.  Just thought it would be nice to hear the sound of the horns by themselves everyonce in awhile.

I have never done this; but it should be possible to make it blow whenever the train passes a particular spot on the track.  However, unless your loop is very large, I think you might find this annoying after a little while.

I have done this many times.

Isolate the center rail for as many sections as you want the whistle to blow.  Power this section's #1 lockon clip(the center rail) with the same transformer connection as the rest of the track, except wire an inexpensive "D" battery in series with this lead.

It will blow every time around, and it will get on your nerves before long.

Clever idea, Rob.  I agree with the annoying part.
