Lionel Lubrication & Maintenance Set - 662927

http://www.amazon.com/Lionel-Lubrication-Maintenance-Set-662927/dp/B0006O24ZO/ref=pd_sim_t_4

I have a Lionel 4-4-2 Steamer from a PA Flyer set and I have a Lionel Lehigh Valley GP-38. I know I should be doing some maintenance to them before I start running them. They have been dormant since last Christmas :(

I was wondering if this set would be good to use on these engines. I have to find the manual for the steamer but I dont have the manual for the diesel so I will have to do some searching to find out how to maintain & lube this engine.

Thanks!

That kit is ok, or you can go to your local hobby shop and buy Labelle 106 grease and 107 oil. Thats all I use. Honestly, I have found grease that lionel sells runs off when engines get warm. Labelle grease will not.

Heres your manual, you can view it only or download and print it. Its from the same engine with a different road name. http://www.lionel.com/media/servicedocuments/73-1915-250.pdf

I've had good luck with the Lionel lube kits. The trick is to NOT use excessive grease on the gears. You aren't lubing a REAL locomotive. Wink

Thanks dagison1507!  I am going to print it and keep it with the engine from now on.
