Hi ALL!I have a buddy of mine that is in need of Xmas cash. He's offering up his RARE Alco New Haven 209, AB, with BOXES! I've looked around to figure out what there worth...impossible!! I've seen asking prices at Ebay stores of $850 the pair, without the boxes!! I've seen them asking $400 JUST for the boxes! I just don't know what a fair price could be!
OK...about the engines. The dummy has surface rust underneath on the chassis. I'de give it an 8. The powered unit doesn't have any rust, it runs, BUT it does have that nasty crack in the back were that screw goes! I'de give it a 7. And the boxes, both in good shape, both get an 8.
Any ideas on a fair price for all??
Many thanks, Ted
Post War 209 AA will go for $200 in good condition to $600 / $700 in excellant condition. Your set would have a tough time making the good condition most likely poor condition. Boxes are a plus.
Broken pilots, nasty crack, some rust, paint chips

I would have a hard time listing these as "Good" as mentioned above. The broken pilot, the damaged decal, the rust on the E-unit lever and surface rust on the frame along with mentioned cracks etc. Unless in pristine condition, auction values for much of the postwar items is not what it once was. I would not be interested in these, but for someone who was in the market, I doubt they could offer much money in the condition pictured.

To be brutally honest, those engines are in poor condition, and are only worth whatrever the parts will bring. I have purchased many 200 series alcos to part out. I'd expect a pair like that to go for around thirty to forty dollars, depending on how clean the power unit chassis. The dummy chassis is too rusty to count, although the trucks may be salavagable. Prices may be higher in other areas. On the other hand, the boxes are worth more than the locos. Perhaps considerably more. Some people will pay quite a bit for an empty box.
