Anybody out there have the top off of their P.E. announcement coach?
Mine has an intermittant conductor's lantern, so I wanted to open it up and check the wiring before springing $15 for a new conductor/light. Thought I might look at the possibility of adding a resistor to the wiring to dim the lantern a little too while I was at it.
The window tabs on the end of the coach furthest from the conductor seem to be blocked from releasing by something inside - probably the 'voice box'. What is the secret to get these tabs to release?
I think there is something else, like a little screw you might have to remove. My conductor's lantern doesn't work and I took it to a train shop and he checked it out for me and showed me how to remove the figure, but I forgot exactly what he told me.
I think once you loosen the top of the car you can remove the figure by tilting him forward and pulling him off the two little metal prongs/wire that go into his feet.
I got it open last night - just like the instructions said. I just had to exert a little more force on the roof than I was intiially willing to.
To get the conductor/lantern out, you need to remove the vestibule on that end of the car. There is a small phillips head screw that needs to be removed to do this.
