It's YOUR world
Posted by FJ and G on Thursday, May 27, 2004 1:25 PM
You are the master. Your subjects heed and obey "The Master's Voice" as the old victrola slogan went.

You have the power to build and to destroy.

Your trains can run on schedule or they can be continuously late and even run empty, because you are the master.

Your factories can be at full capacity or shut down. You can pollute the rivers and streams. You can chop down all of the forests, because you are the master.

Your tracks can have 3 rails and you can assign goliath gateman because you deem it so

No one, not even your wife or mistress can tell you how to run your railroad because you are the master.

You have the power of life or death over your little people and animals. You can build a city or tear it down. Because you are the master.

You are the engineer, conductor, city planner, baker, candlestick maker, mayor, judge, jury and executioner. You wear all hats because you are the master.

It's YOUR world. It is all YOU.

Something just went wrong.

It WAS your world. You WERE once the master of Pleasantville until...

You filled up your credit cards on trains and the bank foreclosed on your house.

Ex ran away with all of the trains.

Railroad employees went on strike after you mismanaged their working hours and pay and they fried your circuit boards.

After you shot the little pooch all of the tiny plastic people revolted and kicked you off THEIR layout.

As you look across the vast gutted landscape of what used to be your world, you have come to realize that you are no longer The Master.

What once was Pleasantville has been paved over to make room for an airport, highways, and shopping malls.

Progress has finally arrived without you.

"They paved paradise and put up a parking lot." Just had to give you a bit of a hard time Dave.

Actually, I seroiusly believe that this hobby does provide an outlet for the megalomaniac in all of us.[swg]

Elliot,

Life imitates art. The tale I weave perhaps has striking parallels. For instance, there may be a rags to riches to rags story of why your last pike was torn down.

I was watching poker on the Travel channel last night, and when it ended the show that followed it was all about the Mall Of America. After about 5 minutes of watching I began to feel ILL, so I turned it off and went to bed.

Actually, on Monday Big Girl and I went over there. Not to go shopping, God forbid, but to snoop around and check out the construction on the new light rail line. The line will be opening one month from yesterday, but the Mall station won't be open til the end of the year.

As you can see, even after all of these years, I still have some residual attitude when it comes to that place.[:0][B)][:(!][V][xx(][:(][}:)]

Don't worry Elliot. You have every right to those sour grapes! You were mislead and for that, your wonderful idea nearly destroyed your love of trains.

I liken the entire situtation to my belly ache at the moment. I am allergic to dairy (not lactose intolerant, ALLERGIC to milk protein). So I have to watch everything I eat and get little pamplets in fast food places for ingredients, etc. Well, yesterday I was eating at a Wendys in Phoenix and I got sick 6 hours later. Their distributor of buns uses different buns than in Tucson and I was mislead by the employee that told me the brand of the buns.

The anger I understand. Just don't make a friend of it.

Asian students imitating Howard Cosell; a paper boy maniacally intent on getting paid his $2; an obese son & his obese, boorish mother intent on getting the female french exchange student living with them into bed with the son, a heart broken John Cusak constantly trying to commit suicide, & failing, and a younger brother who succeeds at everything he tries, including picking up trashy women & building & launching a space shuttle from household items.

Sounds like a winner to me!
