KL Shay delay (again)
Posted by Anonymous on Friday, May 21, 2004 8:01 PM
On 'the other board', a thread developed over a deleted response to the delayed Shay. As I have one on order, iI enquired if it were indeed delayed again, and guess what - no response!
Perhaps some member here could enlighten me? Thanks!

Bob Grubba of K-Line is a member of the OGR forum. He should come forward and explain the delay. It's not very good PR for K-Line to ignore the issue. The same goes for the rest of the manufacturers. Why not be upfront and communicate the reasons for delays? It would probably prevent a lot of hard feelings if they would do so.

The K-Line website list them for fall of '04. I don't have one on order so I'm unsure of how delayed this is. Hope this helps.

Kill the messenger so to speak. 3rd rail is the only manufacturer (Scott Mann)who comes forward with these kinds of issues on the OGR forum.

John,
You're right about Scott. The Rock would also include Jim Weaver of Atlas. Of course, Atlas has their own forum and Jim takes some heat on occasion, but at least you get it straight from the horses mouth. Agree or not, at least they are communicating![;)]

yeah, another delay. Gill Finn at OGR is always whining about it. He should have known better than to fork over the money in advance. I'm calling Trainworld tomorrow to get the straight scoop.

Well, the thread came up again and Gil appologized for using the term "rip-off". As usual, the forum lit up like an XMAS tree with a bunch of arguing about poor Gil using one improper vocabulary word. My what a sensative, unforgiving bunch. At any rate, had a K-Line rep stepped in, the thread would of ended along time ago.

So let's say K-Line does respond as to the delay. Odds are the response would be:

"We have had design issues with the engine, which has lead to further delay. Because of some additional re-design specifications our Shay will also increase in price to $$$. Please accept our apologies for this inconvience. Rest assured that the finished product will far exceed your expectations."

Someting like that....

What have your really learned? How much minutiae do your really want to know?

I suppose it would be nice to hear some dirty laundry associated with the delay like another train company stole the plans of the engine and tried to sell them on ebay....but stuff happens.

My local shop takes orders but no money. He gets burned sometimes but that's the way he does business. I wouldn't put up front money [my choice].
