Stone embossed foam insulation from retro article
Posted by sciano on Tuesday, September 1, 2009 11:39 AM

Hi:

I would love to get some of the stone embossed insulation, but no one around me knows what I am talking about.  Does it nhave a special name or who manufactures it?  Any help appreciated in locating it.

I think you are referring to what is available from Woodland Scenics or Scenery Express.

No, it isn't the Scenic Express material. It is the FP Ultra Lite foundation insulation panel system for home exteriors.

One advantage of the panels is that because they're meant for outdoor use, the stones are fixed in place pretty well. The disadvantage (beyond the challenge of finding a store that sells them) is that the layer of stone makes them considerably heavier than plain foam insulation.

Thanks for reading CTT,

Terry

Hi,the product I described is refered to as " sill seal ".It's placed between the sill plate and floor decking on the outside walls when frameing a new home.It comes in a fifty foot roll ,5 1/2 " wide and about 1/8" thick.Home Depot,Lowes or any other building supply outlet should have it on hand. The pebble like texture must be a byproduct of the manufacturing process. It's sole purpose is to help seal out drafts.I just thought it woked well in my application and is very inexpensive. It can be cut easily with a utility knife.I made a mock up test track with Lionel 3 rail steel track. The sound deadening effect works great.I need to find an adhesive to mount it to my roadbed.

Hi,

Can you tell me is this "sill seal" flexible, is this something that could be fastens to make rock faces?

Thanks Ray
