Train season almost over ?

I'm with you. Time for a physical break. Be with the family and have some other fun. We want to be well rounded, right? It doesn't mean we can't be mentally working, thinking about new changes or finishing things we started but never quite completed. That's why we love this !!!

Hey Big Boy..Maybe I should send you a couple of these hay burners to munch on the lawn and fertilize at the same time, to cut your work load down. ...To all you Texans.. from a former Texan( no such thing) I spent 25 HOT SUMMERS just north of Houston in Willis, Tx. so I know all about the heat , mosquitos, alligators in Lake Conroe,copperheads , coral snakes,cottonmouth mocassins and all the other vermin. Thank God we have practically no snakes here and none poisionious. All we have to worry about is grizzly bear, mountain lion, and the occasional moose.However I will be back in Waco Texas this week for my Daughters graduation from good old Baylor, and I have dusted off my short pants for the occasion..........Later...Tim

I guess its never really over for me, but it slows down in the summer. I do some of my repainting in the summer, work in the yard under the umbrella like Bill.

I use the summer for scheduled maintenance, repairs and restoration work. There is nothing quite as relaxing as to be sitting on the deck under a big umbrella working on my pw trains. I also use the warm summer months for building dioramas that can be easily added to my layout.

For me train season lasts all year long. In fact, I think that it might pick up in the summer. First of all, in the summer time there's no school and so I have much more free time for my trains. Secondly, I can't stand the heat and whenever it gets hot, I'm always in the nice cool basement. Thirdly, since I'm a collector who is always searching for trains, I do a lot more train buying in the summer than I do the winter. In the summer there's garage sales, many antique stores that are closed in the winter are open and we do a lot of travelling in the summer and so I buy many trains on these trips. Plus there's also more time for railfanning and seeing real trains in the summer.

Typically for my part of Texas operation stops June through August. Too hot as my layout is in the garage. I work all the way from September to May (cold months aren't too bad). Plus summer is a good time to be outside and working in the yard, swimming etc.

But this year I have made a lot of progress and may continue through the summer. Have 30' built, wired and landscaped. I really want to push on and get the east division done. Then I will be real close to completing the loop.

Actually, I'm finding the basement still a nice cool place to retreat to for a few hours on the steamy afternoon. Besides, I have a million things I would like to do to improve it - right now, I'm musing on how to use some of my son's plastic roadways (for his matchbox cars) that seem to fit right in.

Now is the time that we will be visiting the tourist type railroads. We are planning to ride the Western Maryland at Cumberland, MD late this month.

Us retirees are always busy. Retired to fish more and I've fished less. Too many projects gooing on and too many folks thinking you can do for them as, "You're retired so you have time to do it for me." Met a real nice couple from your state while I was at Bass Pro show in Savannah Ga. Driving their motor home. Retired and go south for winter. Were "working" their way back home as the weather improved. Guess they are home by now. Enjoy. On trains? Just getting started. Plan on working more as the weather gets hot and humid. Train room is in A/C.

Its pretty nice here, but you won't find me outside!!! Unless the lawn needs mowing.

Nope! Not here in AZ!! Like I've stated before, this is our indoor time here. The rest of the nation goes outside now, but we lock ourselves inside. 105 today and so the seven months of summer begin. Our months for outdoor play are February, March and April. Of course, November and December are okay as well, but a little too cold for us blood-thinned humans. No----The layout gets lots of work now until Halloween. You can almost set your clock by it. Halloween, the cold sets in and the furnaces go on.
