Lionel SW transformer

I totally agree with the KW as being a really good choice.  190 watts for $35 can't be beat, and I think they will last forever.

I buy KW's for $35-40 on eBay regularly, no reason on the planet to spend $80 for a lesser transformer!

The TW has two more-or-less separate coil and lamination sets inside. (There are certain interconnections.)  One is for operation of the train, the other for accesories. Total nominal rating for both is 175 watts. Each coil can provide 60 or 65 watts continuous -- 120-130W total for the transformer, but only 60-65W is available for running the train. The SW is capable of around 75 watts continuous output -- maybe a little more -- despite its lower 130 watt rating, and all of it can be used for a train (though with no accessories). (Continuous outputs based on the figures in the service manual.)

 The SW(130 watts input rated) is capable of 44% more power to the track than a TW(175 watts input rated).

As similar as the two appear, they are vastly different transformers.

 Last year I bought a TW for 75 bucks. Looks and works great. I think 80 for an SW is too high.

While I happen to have a soft spot for the SW transformer, I don't think they are worth eighty dollars. The SW transformer does not have rollers, as the high end transformers do. Only one controller has a whistle control, and the wattage is fairly low. I guess if the transfomer was like new, with the instructions, and a nice, clean box, then it might be worth that price.

Sorry, but I got a nother queston.  I saw a Lionel SW transformer at a local antique store in c-2 of the CTA grading scail.  What is it Worth the $80 on the price tage?  Thanks!
