Is your favorite shortline represented by...?

a toy train, or would you need to custom paint it yourself.

As you probably know from my cognomen, mine is the FJ&G, and I'd have to find a couple of S-2 diesels and handpaint. I just returned from the bookstore and was surprised to see the FJ&G featured in the Summer issue of Classic Trains. Not since MR article in 1979 have I seen the FJ&G featured.

It would be a lot of fun to model but I've already invested in the Santa Fe. Perhaps someday.

Have you ever modeled your favorite shortline? For that matter, was there ever a shortline close by to you where you grew up?

Used to be impossible to get short lines from the mfrs. Situation has improved somewhat, but none of my favourites. Painted some though!

I'm sure the ones I need will have to be custom, they are way too local, and would never sell.

The Columbus & Greenville, which crosses the state of Mississippi, had a boxcar produced by Lionel a few years back. I was able to find one on Ebay recently. My grandfather and an uncle worked for the C&G many years ago.

You're lucky, the two railroads that I need own NO cars. One is a transfer railroad and the other is a short line hauler. The only real equipment they have is engines, so my party is over.[:(]

I have two favorite shortlines, the local now-defunct Frankfort and Cincinatti, and the larger R.J. Corman.

I don't think that F&C stands a chance, so I'll probably paint a couple of S-2s for them one of these days.

R.J. Corman owns various shortlines all over the eastern half of the USA, so they might stand a chance from somewhere. They own 3 SD-40T-2s(2 D&RG, 1 SP), 1 SD-40-2, 2 GP-16s(low hood), a GP-9(low hood), an AA set of FP-7s, and some other pieces that I can't remember at the moment.

Forutnately, for me Atlas did do a locomotive in my favorite short line The Raritan River RR. Then they did the caboose too! Now they are doin a Morritsown and Erie RS unit. I have that on order. Someday when I have more time I plan on customizing some steam for the RRRR. About 12 years ago Weaver did the RRRR boxcar and they are extremely hard to come by today. I keep checking Ebay but haven't seen any.
