Nice pictures and always looked forward to..  Seems like there are quite a few of us making the journey to Owosso.  Although I am in Michigan, it will be a 8 1/2 hour trek for me, but the chance to see all those working steam engines will be well worth the transit time.  This will be a nice vacation break with much to look at there.  I hope that small town is prepared.....

I will be in Owosso, MI for the 25th of the month, and as a result, away from my computer. So I'm celebrating Christmas in July a few days early. Here is my Polar Express train from Lionel, flying past my lilies on the way to the North Pole. ... and what to my wondering eyes should appear, but a hobo, with a campfire on top of the train. Taking the outdoor barbecue idea a bit far. A wreath around the headlight adds a bit of charm to this business-like Berk. It's five minutes to midnight as the Polar Express is reaching the few minutes of darkness at the North Pole this time of year.

Here on the Blue Board Central Division of American Flyer Lines the management still runs name trains on occasion.  During these summer months they decided to resurrect an old tradition of running a train up to the resort communities specifically for weekend fishermen.  Its for the dads who send their family on vacation for the month and then meet them on the weekend at the cabin or the resort to enjoy some vactioning of their own.  The train is called The Fisherman's Special and friday night its usually loaded with dads coming out of Chicago and Milwaukee heading up to Tomahawk, Minoqua and Star Lake on The Wisconsin Valley Line of the CMStP& P.  I managed to catch some shots of it as it passed through town and was headed north.  Fish in the northwoods beware!

 

 

 

 

 

 

I managed to catch a picture of one of the engineers assigned to the run.  He took some time off to grab some beans and then went to visit the local train club (HO gauge of course).  The club is located in the basement of a local victorian mansion that has just been renovated.  The historical society was holding a Living History Festival with folks dressed in period costum,so our hard working hog head was hardly even noticed.

This layout was constructed in a hurry, on two 36 inch wide hollow core doors connected end to end, and hinged.

The layout is portable and was built for an office celebration (and future unborn grandchildren). It will just fit in a medium sized wagon or a GMC JImmy.

The structures are interchangeable with my fixed permanent layout which suffered damage recently and is now under reconstruction.

 Good afternoon,

 A bunch of great pictures as usual.  Both new and old are appreciated.

Posting a couple of the car exchange car received last week from the Ann Arbor.

 

And also the TCA 2009 convention car, Hot Eddy's Salsa car.

 

And a few of the newest addition to the motive power roster.  A PRR G5s ten wheeler, in my opinion on of the handsomest steamers the PRR ever had.

 Don't let the front of the oldtimer extending past the front of the G5s confuse you, I could not get into a position where that did not show and still get the whole G5s in the picture.

Seayakbill - I was able to catch the NS/Maersk Sd40-2 a few years back, in Baltimore.

The Maersk locos always bring up questions when I have visitors over. The folks that know that Maersk is a steamship line always state that they never new Maersk had railroad locomotives. The powder blue locomotives are some of the better looking diesels. When I was employed in the transportation business I would visit the Maersk terminals in Hong Kong and Shanghai each year, fantastic operations.

Seayakbill - I was able to catch the NS/Maersk Sd40-2 a few years back, in Baltimore.  Since then, it was involved in a minor wreck, and has been repainted into the standard NS livery.  The 151 was a one day wunder for a promotional shot, and was then repainted into the (then still) ATSF colors.
