What goes with toy trains?

Pizza and beer?

An empty wallet?

A smile on my face?

I am sure there a million things that go with toy trains ... yes, and especially your army men.

Pretty "GOOD" goodness. [;)] Think you told the truth then. Especially the empty wallet. But it does put the [:D] on the face.

Thor,

I had a couple bags of Lido soldiers like shown in your first thread. Used to frag them with a slingshot or put a bunch on the tracks and runnem over with the Lionel Scout.

Poor toy soldiers, I used to destroy mine too. I guess I'm not the only one who used to do it.

Oh yeah, I had a few bags of the Lido troopers.

They all eventually met their tragic end in elaborately staged, fiery battle scenes which we landscaped with lots of Easter grass (nicely flammable), doused with wood alcohol, and torched off with 2" firecrackers embedded in the sand at strategic points.

In later years we saved our chore money to assemble whole squadrons of warship models. After the day-long wargames out in the yard finally lost their appeal, we scuttled each ship with an appropriately-sized firecracker.

Later we built model rockets, played with them for many long summer days, and then began experimenting with homemade warheads, which led the police to our door and pretty much ended my career as an explosives expert......

as kids we tried and tried to set up a model rocket that would eject a tin or plastic army soldier with a parachute... never got it to work well..

The army soldiers also make nice fishing lures; just stick a couple hooks in them.

I don't treat my clones like that! (But it is kind of fun to run them over with my 4-4-2[:-,])

In-jokes about railroads, and, consequently, quizical looks from non-railfans.

I had a bunch of the marx army men as a kid. My father then bought me a bb gun. We shot in the basement. That pretty much ends that story.
I did have a bunch of pretty small army men around 3/4 of an inch tall, grey and blue I think, I wish I still had them also but they did help my marksmanship.
I played with army men on my train set all the time, the mine sweeper always seemed a little worthless to me as a kid, the coolest were the kneeling machine gunners, they sat up the best.
I bought my son a bb gun last christmas he is 9. I live in the house I grew up in. We went to walmart and bought a big bag of army men with tanks and jeeps for a buck and shot them in the basement. Do you think he will wish we didn't some day?

What is it with boys and pyrotechnics? I had most of the army men kits that Thor has recently highlighted on his Armymen website. My brothers and I lit these poor guys on fire using the gas for the lawnmower - melted them with magnifying glasses and the sun - blew them up with BB guns and firecrackers - all during our various ways. We has a literal blast. Right now, from Thor's suggestion, I've found a bag of new ones with which we're populating our layout.

NOT MINE!!! I owned the trains long before I ever met my ex. She should have gotten NOTHING, but I ended up having to buy her a house, or the judge would never have gone for it. The whole deal sucked, but in the end it may work out very well for me.

More in keeping with the intended flavor of this topic, I would say any construction toy. Erector sets and legos come quickly to mind.[:)]

I broke with my tradition and bought a K-Line Army train. I opted for a bag of their Armymen. 50 of them. Pretty nice detailing. Anyone know of them?
