Hi, I'ld like to introduce myself.

Hi Everyone, since this is my first time I'm posting here, I think it's kind to introduce myself first. I'm Daan, 30 years old and collecting toytrains since I was 15 years old. I'm used to drive JEP and Bing machines, but this spring I could buy a double F3a with alu cars from Lionel. (2353, 1953 dated)
I was nicely suprized about the quality of these machines and the heavy oversized motors and gearwork inside it. In Holland gauge 0 is rare and everything american on 3 rail gauge 0 is almost not to be found.
I made a small website for enlarging the popularity of 0 gauge in Holland, but may be someone here is interested too. http://communities.zeelandnet.nl/data/lionel is the url to get there. It's in Dutch, so may be hard to read.
I hope to have a great time on this site and keep on the good work.
Best regards from Holland.

Hello from Nashville, Tennessee, Daan. Do you live near Eindhoven? I was watching the WWII series Band of Brothers and that was a town liberated by the Allied advance. I'll have to check out your website.

ChiefEagles,

I've got the DVD set of BoB too. IMO, it's the best treatment of the frontline view of WWII that's available. All my active duty was stateside (Vietnam era), but I have a real appreciation for what combat zone guys have done over the years.

@ Tom; very nice layout. In Europe we make these only in h0 gauge. I like the tree house! A very good idea for giving a small spot on the layout a good look.
Thanx for the warm welcome everyone! If I have questions I won't hesitate to ask. Other way round it works also, if anything about the technics gives you trouble, may be I can help too.

Hi Daan,[#welcome],
I'm curious about HO gauge trains over there in Holland....
whats more popular there, H O scale, 2-rail,D C powered trains, or "Marklin" AC powered 3-rail trains?

@pennsy-fan; In Holland we have mostly german brand trains. Maerklin, Fleischmann, Roco, Trix and the italian Lima and Rivarossi. N and h0 scale are very popular and about every weekend there are trainshows about those somewhere in Holland. Quite a lot of people are interested in trains. We use mostly dc 14 volts and 2 rail track, but it's not very relyable. We need all kind of computers and electronics together with flywheels etc to keep them running smooth. Thats what I like most of the F3's, their enormous smooth ride and absolutely no contact problems even on switches etc.
The thing which comes closest to a good smooth ride is maerklin, but they don't start smooth, they sort of jump in second gear, which you need electronics to control.

Hi Daan and welcome to the forum!!!!!!

It's great to have you on here and to be able to talk with someone from Europe. I checked out your site and really enjoyed it! Besides American trains, I also like the European tinplate O gauge toy trains and own many, which you surely find a great deal more of in your country.

@Sask-Tinplater, the tinplate "golden age" was here about 10-15 years ago. Lot's of grandpa's an grandma's who collected those machines past away, grandson or daughter didn't know and where not interested, so the market was good and relatively cheap. Nowadays many of these items are for sale only occasionally and I couldn't buy them. The time that 0 gauge tinplate was easy to get is over in Europe. (though I still know my adresses; they also have Lionel!)

Welcome, Daan,

Although I can't read Dutch (but I've been in Dutch before), I could make out the words on your website somewhat and easily navigated thru. Nice site and welcome.
