Thanks Joe, a while ago I went crazy looking for them. I found them on Ebay but they were going for 30-50 bucks for a bottle of 50 good pellets. I went to a show and some of the guys there wanted to sell them to me for 1.00 a pill. I got a nice container of american flyer pellets for about 20.00, but they weren't the same.
Thanks again

The difference is in the element.

The old one sits over the wicking and the pellet is placed on top of that.

In the conversion unit the element actualy touches the wicking.

Putting liquid in a pellet unit will work but not for long. If you are not paying attenion you could burn out the element.

Robert,

If the old smoke units can work with smoke fluid then why do people offer conversion kits so the units can work with the fluid? What is the difference between a pellet unit and a liquid unit?

Thanks. I ordered a bottle from them today. Will be interesting to see how the new pellets compare with Lionel's original smoke pellets.

BTW, the older pellet type smoke units smoke fairly well using a few drops of smoke fluid instead of pellets.

Reproduction Smoke Pellets

I have found a place that is now making reproduction Lionel smoke pellets. The web site is www.toytrainsunlimited.com I emailed them this morning and got an email back from them. They informed me that a bottle of 50 pellets runs 14.95. They currently have about 75 bottles in stock and have another run of 4000 on the way. I mostly have locs which use fluid but I have a few postwar pieces that take pellets. I was going to convert them to liquid but since I found reasonably priced pellets I think I am going to leave them as is. I have found it neat to run the old pellet smokers as their smoke is different from the liquid smoke of today.
