Does anyone know of a source for the Phono Needle that is with the Noma Station? Circa 1951
I found most of my repair parts from Olsens, but no luck as yet for the Needle.
Thanks,
STDave
Pretty sure it is the same needle on the AF 755 & 799 and you can get them at Port Lines Hobbies
Jim
Thanks Sturgeon-Phish, Thats the first lead I had looking for the elusive needle.
Dave
Have you tried here?
http://www.jlmtrains.com/multimedia.htm
Or try a Google search with various combinations of terms such as needle, stylus, steel, 78 RPM, antique, phonograph, gramophone, Victrola, etc.
I don't know, but I suspect NOMA used a very simple straight steel needle. Don't know how the needle was mounted in the Noma Talking Station.
The Brits and some Americans* at one time employed "gentler" fiber (fibre, bamboo fibre) needles for less wear and a "softer" sound. Check the advertisments that may appear in the margins of the pages containing such links.
Port Lines Hobby Supplies lists a "needle for talking station" ID.1157. No other info.
* Edison, for one
To All,
Both Olsen's and J.L. Mania are good, there might be more, I don't know off hand.
My NOMA Station's turn table arm broke and Santa, as ordered by my wife, brought me a replaceable sound unit from Joseph L. Mania.
It's easy to install and operates from the tower's push button, as original, but also, the volume is loud and the sound is clear.
In my opinion, it's well worth the price, even though a little expensive.
Ralph
I rebuilt my Noma Station using parts from two of them that I have. Because the phono needle is mounted to the speaker and both of my speakers where punctured, I repaired the one with the smallest hole in it with super glue and so far it has worked fine. How bad is the needle assembly? Also if you need any parts let me know I still have a few laying around.
Paul
WOW, not only can you UNDERSTAND it but even if you are hard of hearing, you will hear it! Hey Mania, well done...........................
Mike Spanier
Mike,
You're correct to give Joseph L. Mania a 'Bravo Zulu!', for his Noma Station replacement sound unit. Those babies, as you mentioned, are 'Lima Charlie!'
Ralph, Thanks for the info on the Noma Station and how to contact Mr. Mania.
Happy New Year to you too.
Bob
bossman,
I sent you a P.M.
Have A Healthy And Happy New Year,
bossman Ralph, Thanks for the info on the Noma Station and how to contact Mr. Mania. Bob
You're most welcome. Think nothing of it.
.
bf,
You are correct.
I should have replied on this forum to bossman.
bossman, I'm sorry for not replying to you on this forum.
You are very welcome for the info. to contact Joseph L. Mania., for the sound unit and if other things are damaged don't forget, just type in: "Olsen's Toy Train Parts." They have some parts for the Noma Train Station.
Riiiigggghhhhttttt! Sometimes I wonder why CTT bothers to maintain the forum archives. There seem to be so many Americans who can't or at least don't read.
When, the first question regarding the Noma Station was posted you gave valuable information, in helping that person.
I originally agreed, with another forum member, that Joseph L. Mania's sound unit is an improvement over the original for being compact, functioning as the original, but being 'Louder' and Clearer', than the original.
And I did make a mistake for not telling another forum member that he was welcome for my assistance, to him, as you pointed out.
I want to say, that you give great information and you are helpful to us forum members and I want to personally thank you.
Take Care,
Have A Healthy, Happy New Year,
Sincerely,
Not to worry. It's water over the bridge or under the dam, or something. Let me be honest about one thing though. I wasn't concerned about folks not thanking "bossman," I was grousing that no one had thanked me. (I haven't got a charitable bone in my decrepit old body.)
I had posted what I thought was a pretty good response to a similar question as long ago as April of last year, complete with a clickable link straight to Joe Mania's website, and I couldn't understand why no one seemed to be able to see it -- hidden away as it was near the top of this thread. Of course, i'm very well aware that the forces of darkness frequently remind the membership of this forum to ignore my posts, and it is gratifying that not everyone pays attention to them.
Anyway, thanks for the very kind words. Time to move on.
There is yet another post on both this and the OGR forum. It's an interesting topic, as the NOMA stations were quite popular back when I was a lad. I hope people find what they're looking for.
A few years ago my wife bought me a used, in good condition, Noma Train Station and I did not know they were available back in the early fifties. One day, I noticed an old Christmas tree light set, from the early fifties, and it was manufactured by Noma, I did some research to find out that Noma was a manufacturer of many small electrical products from the fifties and earlier.
How, I found out about J.L. Mania is when yours truly, while attempting to change the 'Station's' player needle, wound up changing the whole sound unit, due to my big, fat hands damaging the player arm, at it's connecting point with the turn table base.My wife, on the other hand, would have liked to change the shape of my head, for damaging the 'Station.'My wife, somehow, found Mania's business on the Inter.net and she ordered the sound unit from Santa Claus for me. It's of the "Broadway Limited" and it's sound is louder and clearer, than the original disc of the "Santa Fe."
I notice, when I reply to someone on the forum, my response is posted at a later time, than should be and seems inadequate, because my response gets posted after someone else' post, with the same answer.
You, understand what I meant by my previous post and I too, am old to make things bother me, due to life's experiences.
