Thanks for the replies! Bob, good to know about the Marx track option and, BTW, I've taken your advice & ordered a TVS unit from Scott's.

If there's any advantage to you in having somewhat sharper curves, closer to O31, you could use Marx O34.

It should work just fine.

Edit: I should be more specific and say that it should work just fine with the 042 curves.

My new PWC 746 arrived today. Since my layout is currently 027, I'm planning to add an elevated loop to accomodate this 031 locomotive. Can I still use 027 type track with 42" diameter curves or will the shorter height of the 027 rail cause problems? I'm not planning to use any switches on this loop. I'll have to buy track either way but already have some 027 straight pieces that I'd like to use if possible.
