And the reward goes to Keith! If you look at the car it uses the exact same litho stone as the yellow SHELL car, except it is silver and lettered for LIONEL LINES. A very scarce car indeed. It was included in Firestone sets with 258 or 204 locomotives.
Oh, that is not a Standard-run-of-the-mill- Tank Car. This is the so called Firestone version that Lionel made around 1939-40 for sets that were sold through Firestone Tire Stores as a premium I believe for customers who did a certain amount of business with them. This is quite possibly the hardest to find of all the 1680 series Tank Cars. It is something to hang on to. Take Care.
It looks like a standard run-of-the-mill Lionel-Ives transition piece, except that it has nickel trim, railings, & journal boxes instead of the more common brass trim, railings, & journal boxes.

OK, I'll try. Along with the Lionel herald Kurt mentioned above, I'll go with the handrail. I was going to say the latch couplers, but I'm going with the handrails.
Is it that it is marked with Lionel Lines? I've seen SUNX, and Shell.

Im bored....So i'll post some pics of this very special car and what i know of it's story for us all to discuss. I'm sure you all can hardly contain your enthusiasm....
What you see below is a 1680 tank car produced sometime between late 1940 and early 41. Lets see who can tell me whats unique about this car, and makes it one of the scarcest of all the prewar O tank cars. IMHO only second to the green and maroon 815.
