PENN STATE do us proud and don't screw it up!!!

Great outdoors hockey game at Wrigley Field.  When I was a kid I played a lot of pond hockey.  We made the goals out of 2x4 and double volleyball nets.  At night the older kids put hot water on the ice for the next day.  Sometimes we played at night with Coleman lanterns lighting the rink.   The ice would creak and crack as the temperatures changed after sunset.  If you have never been on 12" of ice, you don't understand the noises, but it can send a chill up you spine.

Buckeye--

We had a city maintained pond 7 blocks from my parents home, played hockey for years there, even had a couple of lights and small warming hut and I loved it.  Haven't been on ice skates for 40 years but once in a while we put on the roller skates, great fun.  I have also done quite a bit of ice fishing and let me tell you, when that ice expands it sounds like dynamite, that will get your attention, more Schanpps please!

Great game for the H A W K E Y E' S over one of those Caroliner states, not even close Smile

Jon....Ice fishing was where I had my first taste of Jack Daniels.

Congratulations to those HAWKEYES!!! They made us proud when they beat those warm weather wimps from one of those Caroliner states.

Happy New Year!

Getting ready to put on the black eyed peas and waiting for the Rose Bowl Game to start at 2:00P.M. PST.  Watched the Rose Parade this morning.  Congratulations Don on the Cerritos float.  Parade had a lot of nice floats but nothing really spectacular as in some years past.  Maybe I'm just getting harder to please.  Too much been there done that I guess.  Weather here is beautiful today.  We just went for a walk in the park and it felt like about 75 degrees.  Those Pennsylvania football players will probably get heat stroke since they are used to playing in the Artic.  They had another fly over by the USAF B2 bomber at the Rose Parade but it came later in the parade.  We live about 15 miles East of Pasadena so we were hoping it would go over our house but they apparently turned off before they got here.  Have a good day y'all and a very good year.

Ray

Buckeye:  I can relate!  I grew up on a small river, about 60' across.  We made goals out of saw horses, and metal fence mesh.  Early in the year we would see who could cross the earliest...running across, as waves moves across the ice.

Good evening all,

It is cold and forecast in SE Indiana with temps in the 30s.  Happy New Year to everybody!   Happy Birthday to Laz57!  Wife and I spent New Year's Eve with some good friends of ours.  Dad and I spent one and a half hours Wednesday taking down train exhibit at museum.  Not sure if I want to do as much as I did this year.  Maybe scale it back to just one layout.  Finished a book on English football that daughter gave me for Christmas.  Very funny, very informative, and very creative on how many ways a certain Anglo-Saxon word can be utilized.  Also the depth of devotion and fanaticism to the sport is amply explored.  May go to a movie tonight.  I had bacon and homemade bread toasted on the dining car this morning for breakfast (homemade bread courtesy of "saucy wench's sister").

Here is what I hope for this year:

That everyone who needs a job gets one and those who have one keep theirs.

That everyone stays healthy along with their relatives and friends.

That everyone on the coffeepot gets at least one desired train item.

That "my" soccer girls get their sectional title.

That AJ's team gets at least one win.

That Sarah Fisher gets decent sponsorship so she can run the entire season.

And as Sandra Bullock said on "Miss Congeniality", ".....and....World Peace."

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Looks like those Penn guys are melting in the heat!  You called it Ray!!

Good thing John Fullerton's car is arriving soon, I can use it to ship the remains of the team back, there should be plenty of room.

Tried to call PA, however, busy signals everywhere, Penn State must be getting a lot of advice !  Glad this is a low scoring game, (oh that's what they meant for the visiting team I forgot).

Watching the beating..er ball game...

Finished window trim...need to stain and varnish.  Company tomorrow for dinner, so will wait until Saturday am.

Still fussing with rail color paint.  grrrrr....Bride made me stop painting, to trim out the windows, and install a shelf in the daughters closet.

Sir James:  Bride likes JT's Banilla smoke!  Thanks!  Been running 3-milk cars, with wood sided reefers, and work caboose.

Doug:  You out there????  Anyone heard from the Dougeroo?  Hope you're OK.

Happy New Year all!

Happy B-Day LAZ! Happy B-Day

Just coming around. Slow day today. The missus and I spent much of the afternoon watching the renovation shows on the DIY channel. Those shows must be staged as the wives are in there helping - my wife laughed and laughed at seeing women swinging hammers and nail guns - she had never seen such a thing and figured it couldn't be real.

Went and saw "Marley and me" last night. Good show. If you ever had a dog you will want to see it.

Regards,

Roy

Happy new Year to All

Well I had a full day, no trains though. Did that yesterday. Watched the Rose Bowl parade, football, hockey, and best of all, Looney Tunes all day, not the newer yucky stuff but good ole bugs, daffy, roadrunner, ect. Granny is happy that Her Red Wings won today, but Mich. State lost and from what I saw Penn. State was on it's way to a loss. Home made tater salad and sloppy joes was our menu for today, a tradition that goes way back to when I would not feel so good on new years day. It was always"there it is, eat when you feel like it".

Kurt, I had some of that Breyers banilla today, very good ice cream, not like the stuff I buy for the Tradis clan.

Ok Brutus I'm ready fire it up and let's go....S.J.

Edit- almost forgot LAZ- Happy Birthday
